"Honshu” is the largest and most populous island of Japan, located south of Hokkaido across the Tsugaru Strait, north of Shikoku across the Inland Sea, and northeast of Kyushu across the Kanmon Straits.
It's also how renowned photographer Robert Winter chose to name the second volume of his "Passing Me By" photo magazine series, which evolves around street scenes, the small things and everyday life around the world.
For "Honshu" Robert travelled to Japan last year and captured street scenes and the people involved with his beloved Leica camera.
Similar to the first volume of “Passing Me By” from last year, which was filled with shots from Post-Dilla Detroit, the magazine is shining light on the small things, people and overall beauty within situations seemingly mundane at first sight.
Stay, breathe, look closer, don't think. What you’ve been looking for might already be there, hiding in plain sight.
To celebrate the Honshu magazine release, prints and the publication will be on display and for sale at the Carhartt WIP Store in Cologne on December 7th from 6-9pm. Local producers Twit One and FloFilz are bringing records they hunted down on their trips to Japan, and dublab will be broadcasting their selections live from the store.
