Fourth episode of the Jazzkonferenz Radio series! Tune in as Hermes Villena and Joscha Oetz explore the dynamic landscape of Cologne’s jazz labels over the last 70 years, live and direct from Hansaring in Cologne.
From renowned names such as Jazz Haus Musik, established in 1979 and boasting a collection of over 300 recordings, to emerging voices like stssts records, launched in 2019 and proudly highlighting the talents of artists from Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin, and Switzerland. Additionally, there is a focus on Klaeng, Impakt, Tangible, JazzJazz, and the iconic MoD Records – Europe’s first independent Jazz label where legends like Hans Koller, Roland Kovac and Jutta Hipp released in the ’50s.
We also delve into labels that might not overtly represent jazz, but resonate with its spirit such as Melting Pot Music, Jakarta Records, Wadada Records, and Papercup Records. Lots of music to explore, with room for more in the future – watch out for Vol. 2.
