Information

Welcome back to our December special of Calling in a Favour, the show where we play all the tracks you might have missed this year.

In order to create the best End-of-Year experience for you, our cherished listener, we invited none other than the esteemed US music critic and editor Sam Hockley-Smith. Sam started out his career in music journalism with an internship at The Fader, where he later became a senior editor. His freelance work appeared in outlets such as New York Times Magazine, Pitchfork, GQ, Grantland, and he’s been the music editor at New York Magazine before relocating to the West Coast again.

Here, Sam and Julian reflect on a year of enjoying music without having to think about its immediate usability, as well as Sam’s personal path in music journalism, and the tracks that made him tick in 2021.
Expect absolute bangers by Armand Hammer, Doss, Space Afrika, Myriam Gendron, and many more.
